The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national research centre for Earth sciences in Germany. With 1280 employees, the GFZ is conducting interdisciplinary research on the “System Earth” and the influence of humans on the planet. As a member of the Helmholtz Association, it is part of Germany’s largest science organization.
- (further) develop probabilistic and ensemble based flood damage models for various economic sectors (e.g. companies, agriculture) and implement these in a flood risk model chain
- develop Germany wide exposure and vulnerability maps based on GIS data and remote sensing
- develop approaches to estimate temporal changes in exposure and vulnerability
- presentation of scientific results at national and international congresses
- publication of results in international, scientific journals
- developing an own research program in the field of flood risk research including the acquisition of third-party funding is an option
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Geoinformatics, Geography, Remote sensing or a related discipline
- PhD in one of the above mentioned disciplines is an advantage
- very good knowledge in geographic information systems, remote sensing analyses, programming and data base applications
- experience in flood risk and vulnerability research is an advantage
- experience with scientific writing and presentation capacity
- very good command of spoken and written English
